Building & Grounds

Estimated Cost of Maintenance: US$225,000.00
Estimated Cost of Conference Center: US$150,000.00

The buildings on the campus, including the faculty housing, of Msalato are forty five years old. They are badly in need of major renovations, from replacing asbestos roofs to rewiring, replacing windows, adding running water and showers, septic tanks, painting, etc. While the campus has a few pockets of beauty, in general it is a very drab looking place in need of paint and landscaping for beautification. The roads through the campus are dirt and extremely rough and could be markedly improved with gravel.

We have already begun to raise funds for a much needed larger and modern library, as well as for two additional classrooms and offices. The current library is being purchased by the Dodoma Language Institute, a separate organization that does over ninety percent of its work on our campus. We estimate that between the money from the sale and an upcoming November 45th Anniversary Dinner/Fundraiser that we will have around 50,000 US$. The school is also badly in need of additional dormitory space, especially for women. The current dorms are very dated, with not enough room for two desks and two chairs in any of them. Students must study on their beds or go to the library, which is not open all of the time.

By our fiftieth anniversary we would like to have a retreat center. We have the staff and the will to do conferences and short term courses and retreats, as well as a peaceful environment not too far from town. Please see attachment regarding the reasons why we feel a retreat center would be a valuable addition for the school and for the education of all ministers of the church.

Our space is currently stretched to the limit, with some of the staff not having offices and with the library reading room having to be used as a classroom. To support the cost of internet we are anxious to begin an email café on our campus, but we will need to either build or to extensively renovate an existing structure to house this endeavor.
